Among the most remarkable attendees were the Duchess of Deveraux, t he Count and Viscountess of Lagrèyere and the city’s mayor, Mr. The celebration gathered hundreds of people from different classes at the city’s main square, that has been renamed the “Remembrance Square”. It was the second most affected region in terms of war casualties right after the capital, Bayrón, that lost almost 4000 men. The region of Deveraux lost almost 2000 men during the war, and a considerable percentage of those who returned alive were harshly wounded. Let this be a symbol of their sacrifice, and become a place to cherish their memory (…). To them we owe a debt that can never be repaid. (…) It is my duty and my honor to dedicate this memorial to those who fell fighting for their Queen and country. HRH Prince George conducted the ceremony and pronounced a speech in which he praised the sacrifices that were made for the cause.
